Workers refuelling at the working bee

The workers refuel

Lovely things have been happening in the club this week: beginners’ lessons, mentoring, a 90th birthday celebration and a working bee.

Thank you to the hardworking band last Saturday morning – Margaret Bourke, Catherine Cregan, Ross Crichton, Tim Davis, Lesley Gunson, John Hempenstall, Stephen Henningham, David Hoffman, Julia Hoffman, Rick Nehmy, Anne Powell, Meg Price, Perelle Scales, Sue Pushack, Allen Scerri, Susan Scerri, Bill Tutty, Jodi Tutty, and Lisa Westwood. They swept, weeded, raked, cleaned kitchens and bridge mates and bidding boxes, and organised boards. I would like the kitchen cleaners to come to our house. No favouritism, just that I don’t have bridge equipment that needs cleaning, and one of the gardening team already takes care of our place.

I have heard good reports of mentoring arrangements in the club this month. Thank you very much to Margaret Kyburz , who organised it all, and to our ever-willing mentors.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions for the future. There is another opportunity for something similar with the Teams of 3 on 1 July.

Best wishes,
Pam

Peter Andersson’s 90th birthday

Peter Andersson, 90 years young, with Alexis and Jade

Friends of Peter Andersson, a long term and much-loved member of the club, joined together last Saturday to celebrate his 90th birthday. The occasion encapsulated all that is good in our bridge community. The ages of those present at this happy occasion ranged from 9 to 96. Please see the lovely photo of Peter with Jade and Alexis, who, with (slightly) older teammates, will represent the ACT in our Youth team at the Australian National Championships in 2 months’ time.

Condolence

We are sad to announce the death of two of our members, Peter Carter and Dorothy Manocha, and express our condolences to their families and friends.

Good luck in Goa!

Bon voyage and good luck to our players who are going to Goa, India, to play in the Asia Cup next week. Jodi Tutty will play in the Australian Mixed Team and Sheila Bird and Karen Creet will play together in the Australian Women’s team.

Wednesday Night Bridge

Our next pizza night will be Wednesday 6th June with Richard Hills giving another insightful talk.

The title for the June talk is: The road to Hell is paved by good conventions.

We will also be running the session on this night as a Butler pairs competition. This is where you play as a pair but the score is as if you are playing as part of a team.

Hence you play team tactics rather than matchpoint.

Pizzas from 6.15 pm. Bridge from 7.15 pm.

If you wish to partake in pizzas please contact Jon Pike by Wednesday lunchtime (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Come and join us.
