Thank you very much to Adrienne Stephens for her generous organisation of the Christmas raffle again this year. It raised $821 to be divided between CBC and Barnardos. Please see winners listed below.

Bridge Sessions over Christmas & New Year
Bridge Sessions over Christmas & New Year period
Over Christmas/New Year the club will be OPEN for all usual DAYTIME sessions, except on 24 and 25 December.
However, the club will be closed for the following EVENING sessions:
- Tuesdays 7.30pm: 24 & 31 December
- Wednesdays 7.15pm: 25 December & 1 January
- Thursday 7.30pm: 26 December

We are hopeful that the Club's printed Calendar will be available from Saturday 21st December.

New Travel Sponsor for CBC
As you know, we have had a travel sponsor for a number of years. From 1 January 2020 we will have a new sponsor. The new sponsor is Travel Associates. They have 5 different shopfronts in the ACT. Members, their friends and family and next door neighbours can all deal with any shopfront. As long as the traveller informs Travel Associates that they are dealing with them because of some association with CBC, the club will obtain a trailing commission.
To launch the new arrangements we have scheduled a major event for Monday 6th January (day session). All CBC Members who are “financial for 2020”, and “playing” will be eligible to win the exciting prize. Both rooms will be set up to accommodate what I hope is a large number of members. The prize will be
via a lucky ticket handed out on the morning and not the winner of the bridge session(s). A number of Travel Associates staff will be on hand to
introduce themselves and to conduct the lucky draw.
There will be “one only prize” of a trip for “two” people to Tokyo, including airfares and four nights accommodation. The prize is not redeemable for cash or any other alternative trip. Please see below.
A light morning tea will be provided and assistance with slices or cakes would be greatly appreciated. I will be making my usual scones.
The details for the prizes are as follows
- 2 x return economy class airfares from Canberra to Tokyo with Virgin Australia.
- 3 nights in 4 star accommodation in Tokyo with return shared transfers from Tokyo Airport to Accommodation.
- 1 full day Tokyo private guided tour.
- Return home to Canberra Airport Limousine Transfers.

Renewing membership – new bank
Membership renewals have now been sent out. Please note that this year the Club has a new bank account, and the BSB and account number for direct deposits has changed. If you renew by direct deposit, please ensure to check and update our bank account details that will be included on the renewals email.

If you have made a $35 deposit to our Westpac Bank Account without a name or ABF number, please contact the office. It appears to be from an IMB Bank.

Monday 6th January – SUPER Special Session of Bridge
The club will be launching a major new travel arrangement from 1st January 2020.
At Monday’s morning session on 6th January we will be conducting a “Financial Members only” draw of a “FREE” major travel prize for 2 people. You will need to be there playing on the day to win. It will be lucky draw, not the winners of the bridge session.
We will have both rooms in play to accommodate the expected interest plus a light morning tea will be provided as part of the celebrations.
Bridge for Kids
The next session of bridge for kids will be held on Tuesday 21st January 2020 from 10am until 12pm midday, but is subject to registrations from at least 8 to 12 participants. A parent or guardian will need to accompany each child or group of children. Card games including mini-bridge will run for about 2 hours followed by pizza and ice cream.
The sign-up sheets will be on the notice board from Monday 9th December. Please advise of any special dietary requirements when you register.

Arrangements for parking have changed. Canberra players have one week to apply for a permit before information goes up on the SFoB website. You should have received an email earlier in the week with full details, or contact the office for full details of how to apply.

Good-hearted members of this club help every year to set up the rooms for the Summer Festival of Bridge. The club is remunerated for those efforts.
We would appreciate the assistance of many volunteers on Tuesday 7 January at about midday at the Rex Hotel, Northbourne Avenue.
"How to get the most out of Pianola 101"
Would you like to learn more about how Pianola can best serve you?
Rick Nehmy will run a session on Monday 20 January and repeat it on Wednesday 22 January from 9.15am to 9.45am in the Olive Lott Room at the Club. It will be a step by step run through of the basics and projected on the TV screen.
It’s not essential, but if you have one, please bring your internet enabled device to whichever session suits you better
Lessons & Seminars
Master the Basics will resume on Wednesday, February 5
In 2020 the format of the Thursday lesson will change to incorporate some play.
The title will be Covering the Basics; it will start at 9.15am and the price will be $6 (members); $8 non-. members.
These lessons will start on Thursday 6 February.
- Monday evenings, 7:00pm
- Friday mornings, 9:30am
- 20 minute free lesson, then play in the Supervised Play section to reinforce your learning (normal table fees apply).
- You do not need a partner for Supervised Play.
- 16th December 2019 – 31th January 2020.
Supervised sessions will continue uninterrupted on Monday night and Friday morning, with a lesson as usual, through December and January. Chris Stead will oversee these groups from Monday 16 December.
