From the President:

The Grange Valentine’s Day Congress last Sunday went well, thanks to the untiring efforts of Bruce Crossman (director), Michele Grant, Mary Tough, John Hempenstall and John Brockwell. We are grateful to many club members who helped throughout the day with picking up sandwiches, taking money, preparing food, collecting boards, filling in, pouring wine and cleaning up.

We were very pleased to welcome Prue and Michyla from the Grange/Hindmarsh to the presentation. The Grange is a stalwart supporter of the Canberra Bridge Club. And what could be better than living next door to the bridge club?

Best wishes,

Pam

Morning Tea

If you fancy a delicious morning tea sometime try one of the people below – they made a delicious spread last Sunday!

Annabel Boag, Val Brockwell, Prue Clarke, Sue Doyle, Helen Eggins, Janet Kahler, Rachel Kerrigan, Claire Marlow, Patricia McDonald, Ben Peoples, Anne Powell, Sue Pushack, Adrienne Stephens and Liz van Der Hor.

Other helpers on Sunday included Ella Beer, Perelle Scales, Margaret Kyburz, Claire Marlow, Jodi Tutty, Susan Walters, Niek Van Vucht, Chris Tough, Bill Tutty, Sebastian Yuen and Simon Grant. Thank you all.

Vale

We were saddened to hear this week of the death of Jim Murray, a longterm member of the Canberra Bridge Club. He was a fine player, a director in the early days and a good friend to this club, donating many of his own paintings for us to hang in the Barry Turner Room. We extend our condolences to Sheila and other family members.

Military Wives‘Military Wives’

starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan. “A ragtag group of women on a military base form the Military Wives Choir. Finding their voice together, the misfit choir put two fingers up to stuffy military tradition, anti-war protestors and their own personal differences.”

Screening from 12 March 2020

Some of you have won tickets to an advance screening this Wednesday. Those who haven’t should treat themselves.

Metal name badges

Another batch of metal name badges will be ordered soon. If you would like to get one, please contact Kerry or Emily in the office to add you to the list for this order. The badges cost $15, and must be paid for before ordering.

Watering

One of the very necessary jobs in the club, increasingly so, is watering our plants. We appreciate Gordon McAlary, who does this superbly on Mondays. Is there someone who could do this before or after they play on Thursdays?
