President's Message
It has been another great week at Canberra Bridge Club. My first mention goes to those who have just completed Foundation. Congratulations! We hope that as many of you as possible will now join the Supervised Play group that meets every Wednesday morning and evening. And, for those thinking of becoming members of the club, this is the best time of year to join. Our memberships are based on the calendar year, but if you join now, you will get 14 months of membership for the price of 12. And, to our current members: please say hello to our newcomers and make them feel welcome.
Next, the October Teams League concluded on Monday night and I think all 16 participating teams thoroughly enjoyed it. A big thank you to Steve Geddes who has been the driving force behind this new initiative. It was a great opportunity for our newer players to experience teams bridge. Look out for the November event which will start Monday week.
It has become an annual tradition for the Wednesday night group to celebrate Halloween with costumes, prizes and spooky food. Reports from the players and the photos suggest it was a big success again this year. For those who missed out, maybe consider playing next year? Another annual event is our Melbourne Cup Day bridge session which will be held this coming Tuesday. This is always a great afternoon of dressing up, sweeps and novelty prizes.
As you may have realised, Elizabeth is taking a well earned holiday. A big thank you from me to those who are covering for her and keeping the club running smoothly.
Finally, good luck to everyone playing in Monaro Congress this weekend! Monaro is one of our sister clubs in BFACT and it is great to see our members supporting them.

Melbourne Cup
Get ready - it's "The Race that Stops a Nation !"
Lock it in, Tuesday 3 November 2026. The afternoon Bridge session will include Melbourne Cup fun.
We will have $5 and $2 sweeps on arrival, so start stockpiling small change.
The Club will supply refreshments - bubbly, juice and light nibbles. The Director will adopt a session that allows us to stop, have a drink and something to eat while we watch the race. Bridge will then continue.
Dress in style (or not). There will be a prize for the best outfit, hat or fascinator announced at the end of the session.
November is RED MP month!
During the month of November we will be giving out RED MPs during selected sessions held at the club or online. There's no need to register, but to qualify to win the event you will need to play all 3 weeks for f2f or 2 weeks RB with the same partner.
In 2026 the Olive Lott Anniversary Pairs will be run on Monday mornings for 4 consecutive weeks.
The following sessions will be awarded RED points:
- Monday 02 November - 23 November Olive Lott RED MP Pairs
- Wednesday 04 November – 18 November DoubleShot Pairs (AM)
