President's Message

A Huge Thank You to Our Amazing Volunteers!

A big thank you to everyone who turned up last Saturday morning to help tidy up around the club. A much needed general cleanup in the gardens and carpark which included painting of the railings and seating, pruning, leaf blowing, rubbish removal and some plantings!
Inside the clubrooms jobs included trophy polishing, bidding boxes tidied, branding of boards, fridges and kitchens cleaned, plus the dealing room got a much needed refresh!

We are incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to help us out:
Adrienne Stephens, Barbara Bialowas, Sally & Mark Vardy, Lynne Tomati, Nicole Finn, Chris Wawn, Susanne Townsand, Pam Crichton, Nick Vonthethoff, Steve Kyburz, John Kelly, Jennifer & Brett Yeats, Mark Wood, Kathleen & David Kenny, Elizabeth Voveris, and Jeanette Grahame.

Thank you all for your time and wonderful community spirit!

Currently two of our top players are representing Australia in the 54th Asia Pacific Bridge Federation (APBF) Championships being held in Hefei, China.  Jodi Tutty in the Ladies Team and George Kozakos in the Seniors Team.  We wish them well for the rest of the competition.  The results can be found here - http://www.gembridge.cn/score/Results?tourStart=2025-05-17&tour=32327&from=ccba

Directors for the Australian National Championships

The ANC will be held in Canberra in July 2026. We will need a team of directors, and prefer to employ local people, where possible. We are also keen to give less experienced directors an opportunity to upgrade their skills by working at the national level as trainee directors.

If you have experience as a club director and would like to be considered in either role, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more details.

Lighter Moments

There are 5 cards in a random line, A, K, Q, J and T, including at least one of each suit.

  1. The two hearts are not beside each other.
  2. The King is not a heart.
  3. The Jack is red.
  4. The T is immediately to the left of the K.
  5. The card on the left hand end is black.
  6. The spade is somewhere to the right of the A.
  7. The club is not alongside a heart.
  8. The Q is somewhere to the right of the J.

Solution:  AC, JD, TH, KS, QH

Club and 2 hearts cannot be next to each other so are in positions 1, 3 and 5.

Leftmost is black so card in position 1 is black and 3 and 5 are hearts.

Ten is immediately to the left of the King so they are either 1 and 2 or 3 and 4.

If 1 and 2 then Ace is 3 and spade is 4 but this puts Jack in 4 - but Jack must be red.... to Ten and King are in positions 3 and 4, Jack of Diamonds in 2 , Queen in 5 and Ace in position 1.

Has anyone noticed our new bin in the kitchen corner dedicated to colleting cans and bottles? This bin will be used to participate in the ACT Container Deposit Scheme. Please bring your cans and bottles to the club but first check the website below to make sure that it qualifies for the rebate:

Correction: the list of volunteers that Mary has thanked for coming to the Working Bee on Saturday is not complete.  Many thanks also to Mary Tough.
