The Australian Bridge Federation runs an annual Grand National Open Teams event, bringing in teams from all over Australia to a RealBridge weekend playoff in September and a National grand final in November.
The Bridge Federation of the ACT will conduct an ACT final (Gala Pairs) on Saturday 6 September with an Open and Restricted (less than 300MPs) Pairs event.
The Canberra Bridge Club will hold a series of two session qualifying events between May 1 and 31 August in each regular duplicate and RealBridge session, details of which are shown below.
These events will be held concurrently with the normal duplicate. There is no entry fee and no need to pre -enter. Gold Masterpoints will be awarded for each session and the winner pair of each event will be invited to participate in the relevant ACT final with free entry. There is no obligation to accept the invitation.
All sessions at the CBC (including RealBridge sessions) have a two week GNOT Qualifier scheduled between 1 May and 31 August.
Schedule:
Tuesday is Competition night
The Club holds competitions for stronger players on Tuesday evenings, from 7.15pm to around 10.15pm. This session is best suited to experienced players and to developing players looking to master their game.
The competitions include the Club’s many honour board titles, and BFACT’s State-level events. They include Butler pairs, matchpoint pairs and teams competitions. They are generally multi-week, and offer red or gold masterpoints. As a result, table money is higher than other sessions. Pre-entry is required via MyABF. Competitions are held at the clubrooms (except that in winter, they are held on RealBridge).
If there are evenings when you are not available for a competition that you have entered, it is your responsibility to find a substitute. The managers can assist with finding a substitute, as well as partners or team mates.
A few Tuesday evenings have no game scheduled, due to clashes with national events or the Christmas break.
BFACT Competitions And Special Weekend Events
Weekend Competitions are mostly run by BFACT. These competitions are largely concerned with ACT State championships, and selecting ACT representatives to the annual Australian National Championships.
Some BFACT events are held as part of CBC's Tuesday night Competition program.
Other events run by the club on weekends aim to support our youth and novice players.
RED Masterpoint competitions
This year the Club is introducing new RED Masterpoint events, to give all players the opportunity to earn red and gold masterpoints. To be promoted to State Master or beyond, you need at least 25 red masterpoints, as well as your green masterpoints.
Over the next few months, some red and gold point multi-week daytime events will be held, to give all players the chance for masterpoint promotions.
Novice and Restricted Events
All novice and restricted events will have a limit on the number of masterpoints each player or partnership must have to be be eligible to play.
Usuallly the following applies, though each event can vary as per club's discretion:
Novice: All team members must have less than 100 masterpoints at July 1, 2025.
Restricted: All team members must have less than 300 masterpoints at July 1, 2025.
Intermediate: All team members must have less than 750 masterpoints at July 1, 2025.
