Presidents message
The Teams of 3 event was held last Sunday and again was well received with 22 teams entering. A big thank you to all the team captains for volunteering their time and making this day so successful! Everyone who played had a fun day, and were very appreciative of the efforts of their Captains.
Thanks also go to Barbara Bialowas for all her hard work in the kitchen preparing the “scrumptious” nibbles etc….the Managers and Jodi Tutty for putting together the teams and captains, and to John Donovan for directing on the day.
Beginner lessons are starting next week - Wednesday evenings and Friday mornings. A reminder the carpark may be a little “fuller” than usual so maybe think of arriving early, and perhaps making use of the top carpark. (And don’t forget to say “hi”!)
Congratulations to all twelve teams who have been competing on Real Bridge in the President’s Teams event over the last three Tuesday evenings - see Results. Well done everyone!

Message from the Committee
You asked, we listened!
Trial of a grading classification for Tuesday Afternoon, Thursday morning and Friday morning sessions.
For many years the committee has grappled with the concept of introducing a movement for those members wanting to play in a slightly less competitive bridge environment.
Last night the committee endorsed a proposal to trial a grading method similar to that used by the South Australian Bridge Association - allowing the Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning sessions to have A and B grade sections, and restricting the Friday morning session to B grade session only.
The criteria for eligibility to B grade starts with an upper masterpoint limit of 200 MPs per partnership, but includes other criteria designed to ensure that both the A grade and B grade sections remain viable in all three sessions, as appropriate.
The trial will start late August and more information will be made available next week.
So as they say – watch this space.

Club Charity Nominations
Each year the Committee considers nominations from members for a new charity for the next financial year. The Club has raised over $1190 for its current charity, Integra Service Dogs Australia. Over the past few years, the Club has supported Radio 1RPH, Beyond Blue, Barnardos Australia and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Proceeds from fundraising events and the produce table all go towards supporting the charity. If you have a favourite charity that you would like to have considered, please email the Secretary at

You think of bridge all through the day,
The bids and leads cause great dismay;
They clog your brain, disturb your sleep,
But suck you in though you’re dead-beat
You study books and practise hands,
Then off to the club with other fans;
The hands are dealt, your turn to call,
Your mind goes blank…..forgotten all!
Non-players think you are a freak,
Of nothing else but bridge you speak.
But through the world, this game’s the best,
Sheer thrill of trumping and finesse!

Beginners and Supervised Helpers
CBC is looking for passionate and enthusiastic members to assist with our Beginner and Supervised lessons. This is an extremely important role when it comes to the club's ability to attract and retain new members so we can continue to grow into the future. Alongside the teacher for each session, you will be the friendly face that helps and assists our newest players who are just starting on their bridge journey. The role is both fun and rewarding. Explaining concepts to new players can even improve one’s own game. Beginner and Supervised sessions run on Wednesday evenings and Friday mornings. There is no minimum number of sessions you need to volunteer with so don't be afraid to put your hand up.

This is the last of the Tuesday night RealBridge competition, and it is a 2 weeks Butler Pairs with Swiss Draw Format.

Australia Wide Open Pairs
The Australia-Wide Open Pairs has a rich history that goes back more than 40 years, bringing together thousands of players from all around the country.
Each player will receive a souvenir booklet on the day, describing our recommendations for how the bidding and play should have gone. After the results are in, there will also be a second personalised booklet available on our web page, looking at every board to see how your bidding and play compares against our recommended results.

- This is a walk in event which will run in place of our usual Wednesday evening Duplicate. (Supervised session will be on as per normal)
