President's Message

This week we have been celebrating the festive season with a short break in play for a slice of cake and a drink. This has not happened by magic but very busy elves working behind the scenes under the chairmanship of Barbara Bialowas and her band of helpers Alison Russell-French, Jenny Bergin, Mary Tough, Justine Beaumont, Patricia McDonald and Nicole Finn who have made it all possible. We thank them all very much.

On behalf of the Committee of Canberra Bridge Club please enjoy a happy and healthy Christmas, and we look forward to joining you all with more success at table and in life next week, and into the new year.

Tim Mather

Message from Mary Tough

Along with all the little elves already thanked, I would like to thank the managers and all directors for all the help.

Merry Christmas!

Raffle Winners

The winners of this year's raffle, kindly organised by Adrienne Stephens, are: Rosemary Matley, Julia Hoffman, Wenda Brown and Adrienne Morey.

Thanks also to everyone who have contributed with gifts, money and vouchers to the Barnardos Giving Tree.

Call for new Volunteers for 2024

  • If you are free for a game any day of the week please let the office know, you might be called to fill in for someone whose partner is away and get to play a free game.
  • RealBridge players are often needed at the last minute, if you can jump in for an online game please put your names down in our list of call ins.
  • As you know we are always looking for helpers in the supervised sessions. If you are available on Wednesday nights or Friday mornings please contact Morag Lokan. On behalf of Morag and the club, thank you to all the current roster of volunteers.
  • Thanks to Barbara, Gerdina, Pamela and Nicole our table cloths get washed regularly. We need some more people to wash the tea towels.
  • Do you have a green thumb and would like to look after our indoor plants? I've killed most of my plants at home so we should all be concerned. Also on this note I would like to ask our members not to water the plant pots as they might accidentally get over watered.

Perelle will be able to help you if you are looking for a partner or team mates to play at the Summer Festival. She is also looking for people who can substitute for a player at the last minute, let her know if you are available. If you are called in to substitute you will get to play for free!

Supervised Lessons

The supervised program will be taking a short break over the holiday period.  Our lessons will restart on Wednesday 31 January 2024.

If you are a supervised player who would like a game over the holiday period, please come along. If you would like to do this,  you can try your hand at a standard duplicate. The directors are very supportive. If you would prefer to just to play a few hands and have the opportunity to ask questions, please get in touch with Morag. Morag has experienced volunteers who are happy to be on call to assist.

Message from Elizabeth

"So how are you finding your new job?"  is the most frequently asked question I get lately (followed closely by "How much money do I have in my account?").

I just wanted to tell everyone that I am doing well, I am enjoying my new job and  thanks very much for asking. You've all been very supportive, encouraging and patient.

I would also like to thank the committee, directors, fellow colleague Amik and all the club volunteers who have answered my endless queries about how things work around here.

Special thanks to Tamara and Kerry who still occasionally get calls from me asking for help (will try to keep it low in 2024).

And finally, this is the last newsletter for 2023. We will be back on the 12 January with more news.

Have a safe and Merry Christmas everyone!

Elizabeth (for Elizabeth and Amik)
