President's Message
How time flies when you are having fun. Many of us are going to be having fun at the Rex Hotel on Northbridge Avenue over the next two weeks as the Summer Festival of Bridge makes its annual pilgrimage to Canberra. May every competitor enjoy the challenges and victories while not getting too upset about the occasional forgetfulness at the table which may result in a less than great outcome. It is purely a game which needs to be played in the right spirit. So please enjoy yourselves and respect your opponents.
Please note - all Canberra Bridge Club sessions face-to-face and on RealBridge will continue before, during and after the Festival.
Thank you to the many people who helped us close out the old year on Monday by packing away the Christmas decorations. A special thanks to John Hempenstall for light cleaning instruction too! Volunteers help make this club the wonderful place it is and we appreciate you all! The clubhouse has now been stripped of decoration and, following the recent working bee in the garden, is beginning to look like someone is looking after it. If you have any suggestions on how we can spruce up the external appearance, please pop your suggestion in the box under the TV results screen.
It will be Valentine's Day soon and we are looking for a special person to coordinate an event on Saturday 11th February. If you want to step up please call me or Mary Tough and we'll help coach you on what's required.
Welcome to 2023 with all the excitement and adventure that a new year can produce if only we embrace it.
Tim Mather

Upcoming Sessions
Our weekly sessions are almost the same as last week. The Butler is back running on Thursday mornings assuming we have a viable number of tables.
Links to online sessions are on our RealBridge page. The Club is open every day except Christmas Day so please come in for a game over the Christmas New Year period.
Supervised play is on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and Friday mornings at 9.30am. An experienced player will be available during January to answer any questions.
If you want a partner, phone the office (6282 2382) or email the office a day or two beforehand and we will attempt to match you up with someone. For RealBridge sessions go to the link and chat with the Director if you need a partner.
CBC Pay Statements were emailed out this week. Please let us know if you have any issues and we will attempt to resolve. At the moment there are many queries on hand so emailing us is probably the best course of action perhaps with a follow up phone call if you haven't heard back within a week or two.
Master the Basics
Master the Basics virtual lessons will resume on 2 February 2023 on Thursdays at 9.00am. Please email Barb Toohey if you want to be added to the Zoom class. It's $6 for members and $8 for non-members. The lessons run for 30 minutes.
Barb wishes everyone a safe and happy Christmas break! The Club will be open every day except Christmas Day.

Lighter Moments
With Summernats on...
Do you want to hear a construction joke?
- Sorry I'm still working on it!
What's the difference between a well dressed woman on a bicycle and a poorly dressed man on a unicycle?
- Attire
What noise does the Summernats cavalcade make up and down Northbourne Avenue?
- Vroom, vroom, vroooooom
What do you say to those people you only see at Summernats?
- I can't remember your name but you got the red and black '67 Chevelle with the supercharged big block right?
Kindness is free - sprinkle the stuff everywhere!
Tamara (for Kerry and Tamara)
