President's Message

Take a moment to admire the 5 x 2m high 'Zuni' lagerstroemia (crepe myrtles) out the front of the bridge club on the nature strip.  These mature trees were planted very early Sunday, the hottest day of 2023.  Also enjoy the tyre guards on the BTT western side protecting cars and cement stops alike. Our committee and John Kelly orchestrated these improvements.  Thank you!

A wasp infestation affecting our air conditioning was removed by Pest Control this Tuesday, thanks to Kerry. Wasps are a very important part of the ecosystem supporting biodiverstiy and ultimately human life and should be preserved where they are not impacting on air flow.

Yours in ecologically sound management,

Tim Mather

Wednesday Night Pizzas

The next Wednesday night pizzas will be on 29th March. For those unfamiliar with the activity, the Wednesday night pizzas provide the opportunity for social interaction while enjoying a pizza sampling. It provides a great opportunity to talk to and socialise with your fellow players, which is not always the case when engaged in playing bridge. The pizzas will be available from 6:30pm, which provides ample time to enjoy your pizzas (and wash your hands) before supervised and walk-in play begins.

The cost of the pizzas is a nominal $5 payable on the day. This entitles you to half a pizza. A variety of toppings will be available and participants can pick and choose. Vegan pizzas can be made available for those who want them. No drinks are provided, so if you want liquid refreshment you will need to bring your own.

Those wishing to partake should place their name on a list on the noticeboard or contact Jon Pike directly.

Gardeners Unite - Dig deep?

In response to last week's newsletter we have had one enthusiastic volunteer (thank you so much Barbara!) and just need a couple more to get greater traction.  No particular skills necessary just a willingness to contribute and form a small team. Would you also be willing to give up a couple of hours every 2 months to help keep the grounds around the bridge club neat and tidy? If you are interested in helping, please contact Jennifer Yeats  0412 031 903.

Lighter Moments

 A sad story...

Patrick was a youthful and hard-working Irishman at a small coastal village in Ireland.  Daily he would pole a heavy old punt out to sea then work a heavy iron grapple to bring up the sand oysters which he sold to the local ice works.

He was a man of regular habits he always arrived home each day at a certain time. Sadly, Patrick did not realise the heavy grappling was taking a toll on a faulty heart.

One day he failed to come home so his wife contacted the Police to investigate him being missing.  The Water Police investigated and found Patrick dead in the punt, beside him a huge grapple full of oysters he'd tried to hoist aboard.
