Message from the Committee
This week the club is losing one of its favourite Directors - Christy Geromboux. Christy has been around the Club since she was 12 years old, and has been directing on Wednesday evenings for many (many) years, and the members just love her! Christy is off to Melbourne to follow her dreams to be a paramedic. Although it makes us sad because we are losing her, we would like to thank her for everything she has does for CBC and wish her all the best in her studies, and we hope to see her back whenever she can for visits.
Recently many people have said they are finding it really hard to get a car park. And the reason is, our Beginner classes are full which is fabulous news for us! We hope they are all enjoying their “bridge journey”, and we look forward to seeing these “budding” beginners at our tables very soon.
Next week there will be a lot of players (and Directors) off to sunny Queensland for the Gold Coast Congress. Good luck to all, and have fun! With a lot of our Directors away we ask everyone to remember to be patient with those remaining here to run your sessions.
Mary (on behalf of the Committee)
MyABF - additional FAQ
Earlier this week we've sent out an email asking our members to try opening a MyABF account. At this stage all we are asking members to do is to set up a MyABF account if they don’t already have one.
- All remaining funds left in your CBCpay account, will eventually be transferred over to your MyABF account, once MyABF is fully implemented as the club’s payment system.
- At the moment your CBCpay account is still active and in use. Until we implement the final transfer (end of March) we cannot use any money from MyABF to pay for the club duplicate sessions so please continue to deposit money into CBCpay account (to play for at least a month).
- We are expecting that most of our members will set up “automatic top up” within their MyABF account. Alternatively manual top up is available using your credit or debit card.
Information sessions and volunteer helpers have been scheduled to provide assistance during the month of March.
Youth Day
The next Youth day with Will Jenner-O’Shea will be held on Sunday, 3 March from 11:00am - 1:00pm at the Canberra Bridge Club. If any members have children/grand-children/nieces/nephews who wish to learn to play bridge please let them know. These sessions are available to anyone under 30 for free. And, if there are “Youth” who are not too far on the other side of 30, please let them know as they will also be very welcome, and it’s always a fun time!
Immediately after the Youth finish on Sunday, the Club is running another advanced lesson on “Slam bidding using keycard and splinters” - from 1:30-4:00pm. The more experienced Youth players are very welcome to stay on for that lesson and may do so for no charge.
Please contact Mary

Pizza Night - Wed 28 Feb
The next Wednesday night pizza will be on 28th February 2024. For those unfamiliar with the activity, the Wednesday night pizzas provide the opportunity for social interaction while enjoying a pizza sampling. It provides a great opportunity to talk to and socialise with your fellow players, which is not always the case when engaged in playing bridge. The pizzas will be available from 6:30, which provides ample time to enjoy your pizzas before supervised and walk-in play begins.
The cost of the pizzas is a nominal $5 payable on the day. This entitles you to half a pizza. A variety of toppings will be available and participants can pick and choose. Vegan pizzas can be made available for those who want them. No drinks are provided, so if you want liquid refreshment you will need to bring your own.
Attendance is voluntary and those wishing to partake should place their name on a list on the noticeboard or contact Jon Pike directly. His email is
Feedback for the Mentor Evening
Over the past few months experienced players at the club have been very generously taking the
time to mentor and encourage less experienced players. I have been lucky enough to go to Jodi’s
“bootcamp” where she and others encouraged us all to “be brave”. Since then two really kind
players have played with me, and I’ve been to Will’s lessons too with Jodi in the background
pulling strings from New Zealand. I want to thank all of them and the people who mentored us on Tuesday - it’s a fantastic
experience and if you get the chance I can’t recommend it enough. Whether or not my game
improves I feel differently about being at the club amongst, I hope, friends.

Gold Coast Congress - Shortage of Directors
During February directors are going to be in short supply. We are asking all the members to be understanding and patient as there might be delays in getting results up and some extra time might be taken during set up by some of our newer Directors.
We will also be cancelling F2F bridge on Saturday 17 and 24 February. RealBridge will run as per normal.
Mystery Payment
If you have made payment on 30 Jan in Tuggeranong please let the office know.
Margaret Bourke Pairs
This is a new competition, honouring one of the Club's most successful players, Margaret Bourke. It will run as a two-week Butler pairs, IMPS scoring, on 27 February and 5 March.
Registration is now open, click on the link below:

Saturday F2F bridge Cancelled 17 and 24 Feb
Due to a shortage of Directors during the Gold Coast Congress we will not be running the F2F bridge at the club (1pm) on Saturday 17th and 24th. The RealBridge will run as per normal.
