TIP OF THE WEEK

This is a new, occasional feature of the Newsletter.  It is aimed at our players and our Directors. This week, it’s the players turn.

Calling the Director

Whenever there is an infraction at your table, someone is required to call the Director.  It doesn’t matter if the infraction is trivial and it doesn’t matter if someone (or everyone) at the table knows the correct ruling, the Director must be called and will rule according to the Laws.

Why is this procedure so important?  It is important because it is one of the Laws that control the orderly conduct of the game.  Is the Law an ass?  Sometimes it seems so, but it is still the Law.

Occasionally, if someone gives a table ruling without calling the Director, the ruling will be wrong.  Then there is trouble!  In fact, it is an offence to give a table ruling.  The Director may award an adjusted score or cancel the board altogether and is entitled to impose disciplinary penalties.

Please remember that the Director is in charge.  Especially remember that, if you call the Director over a seemingly trivial infraction, you are not a troublemaker.  It is when you don’t call the Director that you may make trouble.

RealBridge update and part time employment opportunity

The club’s committee has endorsed a proposal to employ a part time RealBridge Promotions Officer to promote the club’s RealBridge platform. The Promotions Officer will be tasked with assisting members wishing to try using the RealBridge platform, arranging partnerships, assisting Directors with finding casual fill in partners and generally promoting the RealBridge platform as an equal partner to Face to Face sessions held at the club.  The Promotions Officer will work from home, hours will be flexible (up to eight hours per month) and remuneration will be at the industry standard rate and include the Superannuation guarantee.
