Message from the President
This week we had the pleasure of having Julie from St Johns Ambulance in the Club to conduct a defibrillator course. The session was very informative, and I believe everyone who attended are now more comfortable with the operation of our defibrillator. Thank you to everyone who attended. Check out this link for some photos.
Last weekend BFACT held another very successful Canberra in Bloom event in the Club, and we hope everyone who played had a lovely time.

Call for nominations to the Canberra Bridge Club Committee
As members will be aware, the Club’s AGM is scheduled for 29 October 2024. We are now calling for nominations from members to join the new Committee. All of the positions on the Committee are available for members to nominate and these include the office holders that include the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Tournament Secretary and 5 ordinary Committee members.
We would encourage members who are interested in actively supporting the Club and its running to nominate. This is a great way to contribute to the business and management of the Club, as well as learn more about the Club. Being a member of the Committee is not only a great way to support the Club but is an excellent way to meet other Club members and help our Club be a vibrant active organization supporting the learning and playing of bridge.
The nomination form will be circulated to all members and nominations need to be submitted by 2pm Monday 28 October 2024.
- Nomination by 28 October 2pm - place in the yellow box in the office
- AGM 29 October 2024 - 5:30pm

Modesty forbids
It was Saturday afternoon in late September at the Hunters Hill bridge club. The results of a multi-session pairs tournament had just been announced. The winners were Pauline Gumby and Bina Kassam. Their win was worth 3.76 masterpoints. It was a historic moment.
Pauline is Australia’s masterpoint leader. The 3.76 from the Hunters Hill tournament was sufficient to take her through the 15,000-point barrier. She had become Australia’s first Diamond Grand Master. It is a magnificent achievement deserving of recognition and congratulations from the whole of the Australian bridge community.
Why, then, is such important news announced first in the CBC Newsletter and not posted in “Latest News” on the ABF website? The answer is interesting. Not only is Pauline Gumby a magnificent bridge player, she is also ABF Webmaster. Pauline’s innate modesty forbade her from posting news about herself.
PS: I’m much less modest. It is my very proud boast that a tiny percentage of Pauline’s massive masterpoint tally was earned with me when we played together in Copper City congresses at Cobar in the 1990s.
