Message from the President
As you may have noticed with recent reminders in the Newsletter, the AGM is coming up (in 11 days). All members are welcome to attend, and I look forward to seeing as many familiar faces as possible.
Please feel free to contact me on any issues you have relating to the club, I do welcome all of your thoughts.

Call for nominations to the Canberra Bridge Club Committee
As members will be aware, the Club’s AGM is scheduled for 29 October 2024. We are now calling for nominations from members to join the new Committee. All of the positions on the Committee are available for members to nominate and these include the office holders that include the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Tournament Secretary and 5 ordinary Committee members.
We would encourage members who are interested in actively supporting the Club and its running to nominate. This is a great way to contribute to the business and management of the Club, as well as learn more about the Club. Being a member of the Committee is not only a great way to support the Club but is an excellent way to meet other Club members and help our Club be a vibrant active organization supporting the learning and playing of bridge.
The nomination form will be circulated to all members and nominations need to be submitted by 2pm Monday 28 October 2024.
- Nomination by 28 October 2pm - place in the yellow box in the office
- AGM 29 October 2024 - 5:30pm
A and B Grade Sections
At last night’s CBC committee meeting, we agreed to extend the trial of A and B graded sections to include our Wednesday morning session. This has the overall affect that all sessions run by the club that normally have two sections will include an A grade section and a protected B grade section (except for Friday morning which is entirely B grade).
Youth Day
The next Youth day with Will Jenner-O’Shea will be held on Sunday, 3 November from 11:00am - 1:00pm at the Canberra Bridge Club. These sessions are available to anyone under 30 for free. And if there are “Youth” who are not too far on the other side of 30, please let them know as they will also be very welcome.

Pre-alert
Only 68 days to Christmas, so it’s now time to give advance notice of our Christmas competition.
I know someone who has a talent for relating 4-figure bridge scores to postcodes, e.g.:
2140 (13 tricks in 7♣ vul.) is Homebush,
2330 (13 tricks in 7♦x vul.) is Singleton,
2490 (13 tricks in 7NTx, vul.) is Tumbulgum,
2800 (5 down, vul. & redoubled) is Orange,
and so on.
Precise details of the competition (and how to submit entries) will be released in due course.
Basically, the winner will be the person who links most 4-figure bridge scores with Australian postcodes. In the meantime, get ready with your lists of (i) unusual bridge scores, (ii) postcodes.
The prize will be a bottle of champagne. But don’t get your expectations too high. The bottle will not be magnum-size, nor will its content be Bollinger.

A little girl asked her father…..Daddy? Do all fairy tales begin with “once upon a time”
He replied No, there is a whole series of fairy tales that begin with “if elected, I promise”.
