Bank Deposit
A deposit made on May 18 into the CBC account has no identification. Please contact the club if you think this may be you. CBC Pay statements will be issued in the first week of June and it would be great if we could attribute this deposit with a person.
Thank you to everyone who has participated in Mentoring in May 2023 - at least 34 pairs - some of whom volunteered to mentor and asked for a mentor themselves! The quality of the mentors was of a very high standard. Mentoring is a long held club tradition that dates back in this club many years. It helps to grow greater confidence with the game. Thanks again to Anne Fleming for managing the program.
Bridge Club Sponsors
The following are valuable supporters of our bridge club. It would be beneficial if members not only supported our sponsors but ensured that they mentioned they are club members. That way our sponsors know that they are gaining value for their investment.
- The Grange Deakin, retirement facilities with several sites (The Grange is next door to our club) and frequently there are immediate vacancies. Brochures are on the Hallway table.
- Travel Associates, various sites in Canberra, always great to deal with. Mention that you are a member of the club and we gain a trailing commission. Mention your booking to Kerry or Tamara and they will sort out the proforma for you.
- Tony Bemrose Insurance Brokers (TBIB), providing all classes of insurance and in my experience, excellent at Travel Insurance. Our experience is they are very competitive on costs. We welcome feedback on this.
- Ord Minnett, Stock Brokers for those into the investment process. You always need a good broker and the Club uses Ord Minnett for the Barry Turner Fund.
- Pacific Facilities Maintenance, all types of electrical work, airconditioning installations and maintenance. Give Jason a call, he installed various things at the Club.
- Battery World, supplying all types of batteries, located at Phillip with a mobile service. Good to know when your car battery is flat in winter.
- The Bridge Shop, For all types of bridge supplies and books, order on line or by phone. Quick service.
- Hodgkinson Real Estate, one of the longer established and highly successful Real Estate firms in Canberra. Many of our members know Cec and/or Ines-Maria Hodginson as long term members of our club.
- Double Shot - Omar looks after us, when you need a coffee, please think of Double Shot.
Our weekly sessions are almost the same as last week.

This ABF paper may be aspirational (and based on a UK survey) but we hope you are all still here to experience potentially national Sunday RealBridge, entertainment and strong F2F and online competitions. Link here
Lighter Moments
My mind is like an internet browser. At least 19 open tabs, 3 of them are frozen, and I have no clue where the music is coming from. If only you could escape the advertising sans charge....
Hard to believe I once had a phone attached to a wall, and when it rang, I picked it up without knowing who was calling.
There is no such thing as a grouchy old person. The truth is, once you get old, you stop being polite and start being honest.
A smile is like the sun on a person's face, pushing away the winter... And it's infectious!
Reconciliation Week
Next Thursday (June 1) there will be a special documentary screening at the ANU Film Group.
https://www.anufg.org.au/filminfo/20230601.html#film-5025
Armed only with a campervan, smart phone and a drone, Peter Pecotić heads into the Outback on a 10,000 kilometre road trip, retracing his late immigrant father’s footsteps and hoping to locate the descendants of those travelled to Australia from the tiny Croatian island of Korčula in the 1950s. His mission takes an unexpected turn in remote desert country, where he meets Warumungu artist Joseph Williams, whose unknown father was also a migrant.
Through their growing friendship, they soon discover the living history of each other’s ancestry, reigniting connections along the way and discovering just how much First Nations and immigrant Australian communities have in common.
Shot over the course of two years, Countryman is a fascinating exploration of identity, environment, reconciliation and how much more there is to learn.
The film will be introduced by the director, Peter Pecotic. Following the screening there will be a Q&A with Peter and Joseph.

Trailer here. Poignant and topical. Perhaps similar to our President's wanderings at the Larapinta Trail.... Looking forward to his eminence's imminent return!
Special thanks Jennifer Yeats and Peter Giles for all your help this week!
Be kind in all things
